Cookie Policy

What cookies we use and how to control them

Last Updated: March 24, 2026  ·  Version 1.0

You can review and update your cookie preferences at any time — your choice is saved in your browser.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow the site to remember your actions and preferences over a period of time, so you don't have to re-enter them each time you visit. Cookies can be "session" cookies (deleted when you close your browser) or "persistent" cookies (stored for a set period).

We also use similar technologies such as localStorage to store your cookie consent preference on your device.

2. Who We Are

De Energy Hub (deenergyhub.ie) is the data controller responsible for the cookies described in this policy. We are based in Ireland and operate under Irish and EU data protection law, including the GDPR and the ePrivacy Regulations (S.I. No. 336 of 2011).

3. The Cookies We Use

We group cookies into four categories. Essential cookies are always active. All other categories require your consent before any cookie or script is loaded.

3.1 Essential Cookies Always On

These cookies are strictly necessary for the website to work. They cannot be disabled because without them core features (like page navigation and security) would break. They do not collect personally identifiable information.

3.2 Analytics Cookies Requires Consent

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use our free tools and calculators. This helps us improve the site. Analytics cookies are only loaded after you give consent. IP addresses are anonymised and we do not share this data with third parties for advertising.

Name Provider Purpose Expiry
_ga Google Analytics Distinguishes unique users by assigning a randomly generated number as a client identifier. 2 years
_ga_BF04EZE2GY Google Analytics Stores and counts page views for this GA4 property. 2 years
_gid Google Analytics Distinguishes users — used to throttle request rate. 24 hours

For full details on how Google processes this data, see Google's Privacy Policy and the Google Analytics data safeguarding page.

3.3 Marketing Cookies Requires Consent

Marketing cookies are used to show relevant advertisements and to track the effectiveness of ad campaigns. We do not currently use any marketing cookies. This category is reserved for future use — we will update this policy before activating any marketing cookies and will re-request your consent at that point.

No marketing cookies are currently in use.

3.4 Functional Cookies Requires Consent

Functional cookies allow the website to remember choices you have made (such as calculator preferences or display settings) to provide a more personalised experience on return visits.

No functional cookies are currently active — this category is reserved for future features.

4. How to Manage Your Cookies

4.1 Using Our Cookie Preference Tool

The easiest way to manage your choices is to use De Energy Hub's own tool:

Open your preferences panel to accept, reject or customise individual cookie categories at any time.

Your preferences are stored in your browser's localStorage under the key deh_cookie_consent. Clearing your browser data will reset your preferences and you will be asked again on your next visit.

4.2 Browser Settings

You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Note that blocking all cookies may affect how some parts of the website work. Here are links to cookie settings for common browsers:

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Apple Safari
  • Microsoft Edge

4.3 Opting Out of Google Analytics

You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting your data across all websites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

5. Legal Basis for Using Cookies

Under the ePrivacy Regulations (SI 336/2011) and the GDPR:

  • Essential cookies are set on the basis of legitimate interest — they are strictly necessary for the service you have requested.
  • Analytics, marketing and functional cookies are only set on the basis of your freely given, informed consent. You can withdraw consent at any time using the preference tool above.

6. Third-Party Cookies

Some cookies on this site are set by third-party services (currently Google Analytics only). We do not control these third-party cookies directly. Please refer to the respective third-party privacy policies for full details:

  • Google LLC — Google Privacy Policy

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this cookie policy from time to time — for example, when we add new features or cookies. We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where changes are material, re-prompt for consent. We recommend checking this page periodically.

8. Your Rights

Under GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of personal data we hold about you, and the right to withdraw consent at any time. For more detail on your rights and how to exercise them, please see our Privacy Policy.
