Every air-to-water heat pump requires a correctly sized hot water cylinder — standard boiler cylinders have coils too small to work efficiently at heat pump temperatures. Why heat pump installations need a special cylinder

Heat pumps deliver water at 45–55°C — much lower than a boiler's 70–80°C. A standard cylinder has a small 1.5–2.0 m² primary coil designed for high boiler temperatures. At heat pump temperatures, this small coil cannot transfer enough heat efficiently. A heat pump cylinder has a large 2.8–3.4 m² coil that compensates for the lower temperature differential — ensuring fast reheat and efficient heat pump operation.
