From setup to board report

Four steps, none of them manual

Once your chargers are live, staff, visitors and reporting all run themselves.

1
Setup, once

Set staff access and a visitor rate

The school issues free access codes to staff and sets a per-kWh rate for visitors and parents, both configured once from the dashboard.

2
Every day

Staff scan, check in and charge for free

A staff member scans the QR code at their bay, enters their code, and checks in via the app to charge at no cost, automatically logged against their account.

3
Events, meetings, drop-off

Visitors scan, book and pay per kWh

A parent, contractor or visitor scans the same QR code, books through the app, and pays only for the electricity they use, no staff involvement needed.

4
Every session

Usage data logged automatically

Every session, staff or visitor, is logged with kWh, energy source and cost, visible in past and upcoming bookings, useful for the board or Green Flag application.

💡 Staff and visitor sessions run on the same two chargers. There's no separate system to manage or reconcile at month end.
Not just EV charging

One dashboard for parking, too

De Energy Hub manages ordinary parking bays exactly the same way it manages EV chargers: same QR codes, same booking flow, same reporting.

🅿️

Parking Hub

  • 🔹 Staff parking bays managed with permits and codes, not a barrier or a fob
  • 🔹 Open days, matches and graduations: visitor parking bookable in advance
  • 🔹 Rent the car park to community groups or sports clubs out of school hours
  • 🔹 Overstay alerts keep bays turning over on busy event days

Charging Hub

  • 🔹 Free access codes for staff, pay-per-kWh for visitors
  • 🔹 Energy source shown: Pure, Smart or Boost
  • 🔹 Every session logged for Green Flag and Department of Education reporting
  • 🔹 Minibus and fleet vehicles charge overnight on their own access
🔗
Park & Charge bundles

Link a parking space and a charger into one bookable session, useful for open evenings or event parking where some visitors need to charge and most just need a space, all on the same QR code.

Step 4 in detail

Numbers your board or Green Flag committee can actually use

No spreadsheets, no manual counting: the numbers are already there in your bookings.

  • kWh, cost and energy source per session: every charge logged automatically, staff and visitor sessions kept separate.
  • Visible in past and upcoming bookings: a running record you can draw on for board meetings, Green Flag renewal, or Department of Education returns.
  • Energy source shown: each session logs whether it ran on Pure, Smart or Boost, so hosts have a record of which mode was used.
For schools, ETBs & colleges

Control who charges, what they pay, and what gets reported

Staff benefit, visitor revenue, and audit-ready records: all from one dashboard.

🆓

Free staff access codes

Issue staff a code for complimentary charging as a workplace benefit, usage still fully tracked per person, no cash or fob involved.

Zero cost to staff, deducted automatically at checkout

Staff codes waive the charging cost entirely: the full cost is calculated first, then deducted, so nothing is charged and refunded after the fact.

  • €0.00 shown before confirming: staff see the discount applied on the booking review screen itself.
  • Visitors use the same charger, different rate: no code means the standard pay-per-kWh visitor rate applies instead.
  • Still counted in usage reports: the pre-discount kWh and cost are logged, so staff sessions still appear correctly in monthly and Green Flag reporting.
  • BIK-exempt when open to all staff: employer-provided workplace charging is exempt from Benefit-in-Kind under current Revenue rules, provided it's available to every staff member. Check with your accountant for your specific circumstances.

Every De Energy Hub charger, schools included, runs on Pure, Smart or Boost energy, and the source is logged on every session for your records.

Schools FAQ

Does this work for primary schools, secondary schools and ETBs?

+
Yes. De Energy Hub works the same way for primary schools, secondary schools, ETBs, third-level campuses and childcare facilities in Ireland, from a single charger at a preschool to multiple chargers across a large campus. Multi-site accounts let ETBs and school groups manage several locations from one account.

Can staff charge for free while visitors pay?

+
Yes. Schools issue free access codes to staff so charging is provided as a workplace benefit at no cost, while visitors and parents pay per kWh through the app. Both user types are tracked separately, and every session is still logged.

Is the staff discount deducted automatically, or does staff pay and get reimbursed?

+
Automatically, before any money changes hands. Applying a staff code recalculates the checkout total to €0.00 in real time, rather than charging staff and refunding them later. The pre-discount kWh and cost are still recorded against that session, so nothing goes missing from the monthly Green Flag or board report.

Does free staff charging create a Benefit-in-Kind tax issue?

+
No, provided it's offered the way Revenue requires. Under Irish BIK rules, EV charging provided by an employer on its own premises is exempt from Benefit-in-Kind, as long as the facility is available to all staff, exactly how the staff access code on De Energy Hub works. This is a general summary, not tax advice, so check the current rules with your school's accountant or payroll provider before rolling out.

Can parents or visitors charge while attending events or meetings?

+
Yes. Any visitor can scan the QR code at a charger, check in via the app to book, and pay per kWh directly, no account setup required from the school and no staff involvement needed once the charger is live.

Does De Energy Hub help with Green Flag or sustainability reporting?

+
Yes. Every session logs the date, time, duration, kWh delivered and energy source, visible in past and upcoming bookings, useful for Green Flag applications, board of management reports, or Department of Education sustainability returns.

Does De Energy Hub collect any student or pupil data?

+
No. De Energy Hub only manages EV charging and parking. It has no access to, and does not collect, student or pupil records of any kind. Accounts are held by staff, visitors and the school itself, not by students.

Can a school minibus or fleet vehicle charge overnight?

+
Yes. School minibuses and fleet vans can be set up with their own access and scheduled for overnight charging using Boost Energy mode, alongside staff and visitor sessions on the same dashboard.

Does this involve installing new chargers, or work with what the school already has?

+
Works with what's already installed, including chargers funded through an SEAI grant. There's nothing to swap out and no engineer callout, generate a QR code for each bay in the app, and staff and visitor access is live the same day.

Can we manage ordinary parking bays, not just EV chargers?

+
Yes. The Parking Hub works the same way as the Charging Hub: staff bays, event-day visitor parking, and out-of-hours car park rental to community groups can all be managed with QR codes, booking and overstay alerts, with no EV charger required.

Ready to manage your school's EV charging properly?

No hardware needed. Works with your existing chargers, including SEAI-funded installs. De Energy Hub is live now on the App Store and Google Play, download the app to list your school.
