The Scania BEV R-series 40t has a WLTP official range of 350km. In real-world Irish conditions — stop-start delivery routes, cold mornings and motorway runs with payload — expect approximately 270km per charge. This is sufficient for Dublin to Cork (260km) on a single charge.

The Scania BEV R-series 40t may qualify for the Zero Emission Heavy Duty Vehicle (ZEHDV) grant from SEAI, worth up to €50,000 for eligible N3 category vehicles. Applications are made through SEAI's commercial vehicle grant programme. Depot charging for trucks typically requires a 150kW+ DC fast charger per vehicle slot or a high-power AC charger for overnight top-up. Electric trucks have higher upfront purchase costs but significantly lower operating costs. Fuel savings of €30,000–€60,000 over a typical 5-year/500,000km fleet lifecycle are common at current Irish diesel and electricity prices. The ZEHDV grant offsets initial price. Maintenance savings (no diesel particulate filter, oil service, AdBlue, turbo) add further value. Most fleet operators report TCO parity or better within 3–4 years.

The Scania BEV R-series 40t uses CCS (DC fast charging) and Type 2 (AC), compatible with all major Irish networks including ESB ecars, Ionity, EasyGo, Circle K and Applegreen.
